Chapman Bathurst assist the BCO with their 24 Degree Research

We have recently contributed to the British Council of Offices commissioned research to inform the latest edition of the BCO Guide to Specification on office temperatures.

The research was a two-stage programme, which investigated the potential energy and carbon savings and the impact on occupant comfort and productivity of changing its recommended air-conditioning set point from 22 to 24 Degrees Celsius.

The first stage of the project was a desk-based review of the theory and existing evidence that increasing the set-point of air-conditioning systems would reduce carbon emissions without compromising the thermal comfort of occupiers.

The second stage was a case study consisting of an on-site investigation of the theory’s impact on a real working office environment.
