Associate Paul Hussey's Charity Challenge
May 19, 2010

On the 20th June 2010, Paul Hussey who is an Associate at our West Malling office will embark on a marathon swim, along with 5 others, from Dover to Calais in a relay team called ‘Team Outrageous – Channel No. 5’.
Paul’s son Luke has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and they are dedicating this swim to raise funds to find a cure for this incurable illness. The team say ‘they are not allowing themselves to think about how far it is, how deep it is, nor about jellyfish, seasickness, sharks, swimming in the dark, size of the waves, the cold or how they avoid ferry waste!’.
Each person in the relay team will swim for an hour on a rotation until they reach France. They will be battling strong currents in water at 14C in the English Channel, which is considered the most difficult open water swim in the world. The crossing covers a distance roughly of 25 miles and they hope to get there in 14/15 hours, which is the average time for a relay crossing, of which there have been less than 500 since the first in the 1950’s.
